LIDIA is an acronym for Laboratorio de Investigación y Desarrollo en Inteligencia Artificial (Artificial Intelligence Research and Development Laboratory).

The research group was established in 1992 in the Universidad Nacional del Sur as part of the academic nucleus that a few years later became the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.

The group was formerly known as GIIA (acronym for Grupo de Investigación y Desarrollo en Inteligencia Artificial, or AI Research Group). The founding members are Guillermo Simari, Carlos Chesñevar, Alejandro García and Marcelo Falappa. The main research topic was Defeasible Logic Programming and Argumentation, which is still the backbone of many general activities in our Lab.

Actually, several lines of research in the area of Knowledge Representation and Reasoning are pursued by different groups in the Lab. The research is mainly concerned with the formal foundations for Defeasible Reasoning in Autonomous Agents. This research has produced, among other results, a logic programming system called DeLP (Defeasible Logic Programming) which is fully implemented and accessible at http://lidia.cs.uns.edu.ar/DeLP.

You may want to visit a description of our main lines of research.
